St. James’ C.E.P. School MEALS POLICY
St James’ school meals are provided by an external provider, but are freshly cooked on the premises, each day. As they are provided by someone else, we have to follow their requests as regards payment etc.
The cost of a school meal is currently £2.30 per day.
Pupils in Keystage 1 are all entitled to a universal free school meal.
If you are in receipt of benefits then we would ask that you still complete the relevant forms:
To claim online please use the website www.BlackburnwithDarwen.gov.uk browse by topic at the bottom of the right hand side, click on Council Tax Benefits and Welfare Advice, select School meals. You then click on the Apply for Free School Meals and fill in the form. You can claim for all your children in school not only primary but secondary education.
By applying for Free School Meals through Blackburn with Darwen, this ensures that school will receive the Pupil Premium Grant which School uses to support your child’s education.
Parents and carers are expected to send £11.50 in a sealed envelope, clearly marked with the child’s name, every Monday morning., Please do not send money for dinners to school in the same envelope as other monies, e.g. trips.
If arrears of two weeks (i.e. £23.00) are owed, then parents/carers will be notified by letter that the school will NOT be able to provide a meal and a packed lunch must be sent for their child until all the arrears are paid in full.
If your child wishes to change their meal arrangement, we need at least 2 weeks notice in writing. Please let us know as soon as possible because the kitchen staff are working on a very tight budget.
Parents/carers who feel that their child may be entitled to a free meal, should contact customer services at Blackburn or Darwen Town Halls . The telephone number is 0845 0701066.
Payment MUST be made for meals until notification of entitlement to free meals is received.
This policy will be updated to take in to account any increases in the cost of school meal.
